Attendance Policy
Students are allowed to miss five days unexcused per class per semester. Absences will be defined as excused according to State Board Policy 160-5-1-.10 as follows:
a) Out of school suspension (OSS)
b) Serious illness of a student or immediate family member when validated by a medical excuse
c) Death of a student's family member when validated by a funeral home
d) Observation of a religious holiday pertaining to a student's individual specific religion
e) Severe weather (ice storms, tornados, etc) will be considered when needed
Students must be present 75 minutes of the 90 minute class to be counted present. A student that misses more than 15 minutes of a class will be counted absent for that day. Students will also be granted an additional absence when they accumulate any combination of tardies, check-ins, and/or check-outs that equal five. Parent notes document absences will be counted as excused three times per school year; absences document with parent notes exceeding three times will be recorded as unexcused.
Any absence that does not meet the items listed above will be considered unexcused. When a student accumulates more than five unexcused absences, they will be required to attend sessions in the subject area where more than five absences were accrued throughout the semester to make up the missed class time. Each classroom teacher will have scheduled help sessions that students may attend. These after school academic make-up sessions will allow students to work on individual class assignments. A student will not be able to make up time for more than one class at a given afternoon session. Students must come to help sessions prepared to work on class assignments.
If a student has more than five unexcused absences at the end of the semester and has not attended the required number of make-up sessions, he/she will be in jeopardy of receiving no credit for that class. To get credit for a class, the student must have made up all required sessions and have a passing grade.

Exam Exemptions
Semester exam exemptions for all students will be based on the following criteria:
. Students with an 80 average and one or less absences in a class may exempt.
. Students with a 90 average and two or less absences in a class may exempt.
. Students must be in attendance at least 75 minutes out of the 90 minute period to be counted present for that class period.
. Any student who has a discipline violation will lose exemption.
. School sanctioned field trips and functions and/or competitions do not count against the absence totals for exemption status.
. College visits properly arranged 7 days in advanced will not count against exam exemptions.
. Indebtedness must be cleared up.
. Students will not be allowed to take exams earlier than the scheduled exam time.
. Students who miss exams will have to make arrangements with the teacher to take the exam at a later date.
. There will be no exceptions to the exemption rules.
Dress Code
Clothing that disrupts school or a school function is NOT allowed. Administrators may REFUSE ADMISSION to class or to school to any student who is in violation of the dress code. Students will lose the exam exemption if they violate the dress code. Dress code guidelines prohibit the following:
. Hair that is not a natural color
. Sun dresses of any type
. Shorts, and skirts, with slits more than four inches above the front or back of the knee.
. Gym shorts or biker shorts.
. Sleeveless shirts (tank, midriff, halter, tube tops), low cut tops, tight or clingy shirts.
. See-through clothing that shows straps or under garments, and clothing that is too tight.
. Shorts, jeans, or cut-offs more than 4 inches above the knee.
. Shorts, jeans, or cut-offs with holes above the knee or frayed hems.
. Head coverings or bands.
. Sunglasses inside the building, to include worn on the head.
. PE clothing except during physical education activities.
. Inappropriate chains, jewelry, hair color, or make-up.
. Pants that sag and do not go up to the waist.
. Baggy Shirts. Standing with hands by the waist side, any shirt extending beyond the fingertips will have to be tucked in.
. Black or dark trench coats.
. Body piercing except in the ears.
. Blankets and coats wrapped around the body.
. Pajamas tops and/or bottoms or house slippers.
. Clothing displaying gangs, racial or sexual connotations, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, double meanings or inappropriate slogans.
In determining whether any student dress is racially or sexually offensive, school administrators shall apply the following criteria:
o The student's purpose in wearing the clothing.
o The symbol or words on the clothing in the context of all other words or symbols or images on the clothing.
o The reaction of other students to the clothing.
o Whether the clothing interferes with the work of the school or impinges upon the rights of other students.
PROM, HOMECOMING, HONORS DAY, & GRADUATION DRESS CODE
Acceptable dress clothes and shoes are required. No jeans or t-shirts of any color or type may be worn.
In matters concerning the dress code, conservative, established common sense style shall be the criteria and administrative judgment shall govern the application of all such matters.
